Diagnostic radiology

Diagnosing a medical condition is the first step towards recovery. Infirmary West offers a wide range of diagnostic testing. Some tests, such as chest or simple bone x-rays, require no special diet or preparation. Other tests require preparation through special diets.

Among the procedures offered at Infirmary West are:

  • MRI, which uses a magnetic field to provide detailed images.
  • Ultrasound, which uses sound waves to make images of internal organs.
  • Radiography and general x-rays for clear, precise images.
  • CT scans to show anatomy in great detail.
  • PET/CT scans to measure metabolic activity.
  • Nuclear medicine to view real-time organ function.
  • CT angiography to determine if a blood vessel is blocked, where the blockage is and the size of the blockage.
  • MR angiography to take pictures of the blood flow in the blood vessels of the head and neck.
  • Myelogram to view the spinal cord and its nerve roots.
  • GI (gastrointestinal) series to see the digestive tract.
  • Digital fluoroscopy, which shows moving body systems, including the skeletal, digestive, urinary, respiratory and reproductive systems.
